Nitrous Oxide Production Plants

Melter

Special grade ammonium nitrate (AN) is charged into a melting unit to homogenize and prepare the raw material for chemical reaction.

Reactor

The resulting liquid is injected into a reactor, where the AN undergoes controlled thermal decomposition into nitrous oxide and water vapour.

AN filter

The nitrous oxide and water vapour flow through an AN filter, where the AN content of the gas will be removed.

Condenser

The produced gas is cooled, and the water vapour is condensed in a counter-current water-cooled condenser.

Washing towers

In the next step, the N2O gas-stream undergoes a series of purification steps and enters the washing towers. Purification is performed in these towers by washing the gas with utility water and chemical solutions.

Gasholder

The purified gas is accumulated in a gasholder.

Fine dust filter

The gasholder feeds a water-cooled compressor through a fine dust filter

Compressor

The compressor is equipped with an appropriate heat-exchanger, inter-coolers, after-coolers and separators. The compressor compresses the gas to liquefaction pressure

Dryer

The produced N2O process is liquefied and stored after drying.

Modular, Skid-mounted equipment

Skid mounted means that the plant units are fixed on a platform and covered with a frame. The units are connected, and the control system also included into the frame. The installation and start-up require the local utilities and the raw materials.

Separated units equipment

Separated elements means that the plant units have a fix dimensions, but the layout of the complete plant roughly free owing to the different length ad shape of the connection tubes between the units. The installation and start-up process are require more time and some of the connections are only finished on Customer’s site

Nitrous Oxide Ultra High Purification Units

The electronic industry requires Ultra High Purity quality Nitrous Oxide. The Ultra High Purification Unit is normally connected to a N2O production plant and it is purify its product to an UHP Storage tank.

LP N2O Storage

Low-Pressure Stainless-steel, insulated tanks and it’s additional systems (LQF & VRS). Maximum 22 barg with 11 000 / 30 000 Liter capacity.

UHP Unit

UHP unit cold box built with distillation column and heat exchangers. A vaporizer / vent panel for recovery. And an UHP pump.

LP UHP Unit N2O storage

For Medical and UHP products, a vertical (22 barg) stainless steel tank is available up to 60 000 Liter capacity, vacuum insulated with all the connection points, required instrumentation and control unit.

Ultra High Purity

The electronic industry requires high quality Nitrous Oxide which has at least 99,999% N2O content and minimal contamination. For this industrial quality (5.0 or higher) the standard quality gas has to be further purified till it reaches the Ultra-High Purity. The UHP is normally connected to a N2O production plant and it is purify its product to an UHP Storage tank.

The nitrous oxide from the Low Pressure storage contains approx. 0.2 – 0.5 Vol. % nitrogen and oxygen. At the top of the rectification column, the impure fraction of N2O sent back to the gasholder contains approx. 4 – 8 % (V/V) N2 and O2, depending on feed purity. These non-condensable gases will be eliminated by the venting of the storage tanks of the existing N2O plant. At the bottom of the column UHP nitrous oxide with a purity above 99.999 Vol. % N2O is pumped into a UHP low-pressure tank.

The UHP unit has 3 main unit. The Cold-box and the UHP pump has a fix layout, and the Vaporizer with the Vent panel have freedom in case of limited available space.

Ultra High Purification quality

Minimum 5.0 Grade (99.999 Vol. % N2O) up to 6.0 (99.9999% N2O)

This grade is for electronic industrial purposes.
